History

The Graduate Program in Mathematics at UFV began its activities in March 2008, with the implementation of the Master Science course in Mathematics in association with the Mathematics Department of the Federal University of Minas Gerais (DMAT-UFMG).

The program was accredited in July 2007 by CAPES, with grade 3.
In 2010 the Coordinating Committee submitted to CAPES a project of an independent course, which was approved in October of that year, and so the program became autonomous from that date on.

All students that defended dissertations up to now were approved by the examination committees.
In 2008, the first year of the program, 09 students enrolled in it and all of them defended their dissertations up to February 2010.

In February 2011, the 07 students of the 2009 class defended their dissertations.
In February and July 2012, the 07 students of the class of 2010 defended their dissertations.
In January, February and July 2013, 12 students of the 2011 class defended their dissertations.
In February 2014, nine students of the 2012 class defended of their dissertations.
Currently the program has 13 students enrolled.

The Graduate Program in Mathematics of the Federal University of Viçosa offers the Master course in Mathematics. The program is focused on Mathematics, with the following research fields: Algebra, Analysis, Geometry and Topology and Applied Mathematics. The set of courses offered to students allows a good preparation in the major areas of Mathematics. Since its creation, the Graduate Program in Mathematics welcomes students from different Brazilian and foreign universities. Most Program students have scholarships provided mainly by the research support agencies CAPES and FAPEMIG. The professionals, who graduated by the Program, have pursued their studies in doctoral programs of institutions of excellence and / or became lecturers at Brazilian Higher Education Institutions.
